TIDBITS FROM AROUND THE BARNYARD
My goodness! Another year has come and gone, and here we are looking forward to a new season here at Ben-Adhem Arabians.
The year 2008 proved to be one of many ups and downs! To start off with I was laid up with a total hip replacement in the spring. Things ground to a proverbial standstill for awhile while the “kids” ran the barn with me taking a back seat and acting as advisor on all things. Not a fun time, but “we” made it through with flying colours.

The year also brought with it the purchase of three Straight Egyptian horses. First came the yearling grey filly by “Anasta El Ibriz”. This very pretty filly will be bred to our new Straight Egyptian Stallion, “Tammen RA' when she reaches maturity. Meanwhile, she will just be allowed to be a filly and grow up. Thanks, Nancy for allowing us to purchase this lovely filly.

“Tammen RA” came to us from Tennessee in late fall. He has been shown Halter and done very well - even placing well at the Egyptian Event - one of the largest and most prestigious shows for Egyptian Arabians in the World. This dark chestnut fella is by the Straight Egyptian stallion, “Farid Nile Moon” and out of a “Tammen” daughter. “Tammen” as you might recall, was Patrick Swayze's premier stallion. “Tammen RA” is probably one of the most correct and charismatic stallions I have seen in a long time. Ben-Adhem is fortunate to have been able to acquire this fine stallion.

With “Tammen RA” came the black bred Straight Egyptian mare, “BKL Daari”. Although blind in one eye due to an earlier injury, this mare in simply beautiful in every way. She will be on lease for one year to Ibriz Arabians where she will be bred to “Anasta El Ibriz”. This should be a “sizzler of a foal”.

AT THE SHOWS...

We did manage to get some of the horses to a couple of the Arabian Shows held here at the Princess Louise Park. Coaching from the porch to try and get kids and horses ready for the show ring is no easy feat…believe me! However, the kids did very well with Rebekah Rouse on “Diamond Lieja” winning a reserve year end award in two divisions: Adult Amateur Hunter and Arabian Hunter Pleasure Open.

Nikki Ackerman on “Rose of Safir” managed to capture year end awards in two divisions also; Road Hack Open Champion and Hunter Pleasure Open Champion. Both of these riders and horses were relative new comers to the show ring…Congrats, Girls!

Natalie Worth rode both “Ben-Adhem Shafira” and “Ben-Adhem Knight Melody” in the Arabian Shows in 2008, and earned an Adult Amateur Hunter Pleasure Reserve Championship. Way to go, Nat!

Ben-Adhem Arabians also had one of their Quarter Horse mares, “Nics Dixie Chex” out on the Reining Show Circuit in 2008, and with her “sizzling” run of 73.5 in September, she earned the title of Novice Horse Champion for the NB Codiac Reining Association. This mare will be bred to our own ROM Quarter Horse Reining Stallion, “ Solanos Yuba Lena” in 2009. Dixie is a direct daughter of “Reminic”.

Coralie Doiron and her Quarter Horse mare, “Kilo Little Star” did very well on the Reining Circuit winning year end awards in both the Novice and Youth Divisions of the NB Codiac Reining Association. Way to Go, Coralie!

Congratulations also go out to Linda and Wally Lemmon on their many placings with their two Morgan mares, “Wavaly's Victoria” and “Linwal Vanity Fair”. “Linwal Vanity Fair” is a halter horse supreme, while “ Wavaly's Victoria” does very well in harness. Looking forward to 2009!

Congratulations also go out to Jennifer Scobie and her Morgan mare, “The Real McCoy”. This pair has done very well this past year winning several awards from both the Canadian Morgan Horse Association and Equine Canada. Jennifer and “McCoy” won the Champion English General Purpose and a Reserve Championship in the Hunter Pleasure Division for the Atlantic Zone. In addition this pair received Reserve Championships in Open Hack, Hunter Pleasure, and Adult Amateur Divisions for the Equine Canada New Brunswick Morgan Awards.

Once again Lex Younker played a major role in keeping the show horses ready for the ring. Lex plans on entering the show ring herself for the first time in 2009 riding the black Arabian mare, “Ben-Adhem Tulani”.

  • Our Quarter Horse mare, “Boogies Music Power” will be bred to our dark bay reining Stallion, “Solanos Yuba Lena”.
  • “Rose of Safir” is in foal to our black Reining Stallion, “Ben-Adhem Black Edition” for an April foal. We are expecting great things from this cross. It is the first foal for this lovely mare.
  • We welcomed “Ben-Adhem Osiris” to the farm during the summer along with his long time owner, Brittany Chown. Osiris is a 24 year old Arabian gelding who was diagnosed and treated for cancer at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Needless to say, we were all concerned, but he is home now - healthy and happy and doing very well to date. In fact, he thinks he is a two year old again!
  • Ben-Adhem also welcomed Jessie McKellar and her mew Arabian mare “Destiny” to the farm along with Justin Whitty and his Quarter Horse gelding, “Skip”. Both these owners are looking forward to a busy 2009 season with their horses.
  • With the end of summer came “Ben-Adhem Ishtar” and his new owner - Lisa Loughery. “Ishtar” is a black Arabian gelding that originated here Ben-Adhem. Good Luck to both “Ishtar” and Lisa.
  • Bob and Lee Blizzard purchased a lovely bay yearling Quarter Horse colt from Ben-Adhem during the summer. This guy is handsome like his sire, the ROM Reining Quarter Horse Stallion, “Solanos Yuba Lena”. “Ben-Adhem Yuba Lena” spends his days keeping their Quarter Horse mare company. “Abby”, too is in foal to “Solanos Yuba Lena” for an April foal.
  • Congratulations to Caron Kurluk of Nova Scotia on the purchase of the lovely bay filly by “Ben-Adhem Black Edition” and out of the purebred Arabian mare, “Anna Van Airborne”. “Anna” has since left us, but her legacy lives on in “Ben-Adhem Aneeka”.
  • Congratulations are also in store for store for Elaine Pellerin on the purchase of “Ben-Adhem Dark Ali”. This black colt is by “Ben-Adhem Black Edition” and out of the black mare “Ben-Adhem Knatalia”. “Sport” as we called him, is one handsome tall, black dude with a bright future ahead of him.

AT STUD 2009
Ben-Adhem Arabians will be standing two Stallions to the public in 2008.

Ben-Adhem Black Edition – a black purebred Arabian who excels in the Reining and Western Pleasure disciplines. He is also a Sweepstake Nominated Sire with the Arabian Horse Association

Solanos Yuba Lena – a dark bay Quarter Horse stallion excelling in the discipline of Reining. Yubo has his “Register of Merit” in Reining with the American Quarter Horse Association.

“Tammen RA” - a first for the Maritimes! This liver chestnut Straight Egyptian Stallion comes to use with all the credentials to be a Super Star! He is sired by the Champion Halter Stallion “Farid Nile Moon” and out of a daughter of Patrick Swayze's Champion Stallion, “Tammen”. “Farid Nile Moon” was an Egyptian Event Champion, and was then sent overseas for a phenomenal amount of money. Unfortunately, “Nile Moon” passed away shortly after his exportation. We are so fortunate to have this young stallion in our barn. He too, has been to the Egyptian Event where he did very well in Halter beating out several high quality Straight Egyptian Stallions. We have high expectations for this guy!
